For mid-career leaders who feel stressed, overworked, and overwhelmed: here’s a lighter (and more impactful) way to lead.
You know what I'm talking about, right?
Your calendar’s bursting at the seams.
Your team’s looking to you for answers.
And yet you’re basically running on caffeine and ChatGPT.
You see other people looking calm and collected, and you wonder: how much longer can I keep this up?
The problem isn’t you… it’s that you’ve been taught an unsustainable approach to leadership.
The Question Effect is about the ripple that happens when leaders ask the right question at the right time.
Leading with curiosity reduces the pressure to be the hero with all the answers.
It builds trust, improves engagement, and creates meaningful change - without burning you out.
But how?
In Part 1 - The Question Effect - we explore the power of curiosity. What happens when we lead with questions before answers?
Part 2 - Leading Questions - is built around seven curious questions that every leader needs in their back pocket.
Finally, in Part 3 - The Stage for Questions - we look at what to do before and after we ask. (This is the practical nuts and bolts.)
Early in my career, I thought the path to success was to have all the answers. I put in long hours, spoke first in meetings, said ‘yes’ to every request…
And it worked… to a point.
But in reality, I was stressed, overworked, overwhelmed - and quite frankly - over it.
A chance conversation with a mentor set me on a different path. He showed me the power of leading with questions; the power of curiosity.
This realisation changed my work forever - first in law, then government, and later as a consultant and coach.
I saw over and over again that when leaders stopped trying to be the smartest person in the room, they created space for the whole room to get smarter.
This book is my way of sharing that hard-fought realisation. It’s filled with warts-and-all stories, insightful frameworks, and (unsurprisingly) a whole lotta questions.
I’ve loved writing this book, and I can’t wait for you to read it.
If you’re a mid-career leader who’s stressed and overworked - then I’m here for you.
I’m a trained lawyer, former consultancy partner, and host of Beyond Consultation, a top 1% global podcast.
Now I spend my days helping leaders and teams to address the underlying issues holding them back - so they can make more progress, faster.
(I spend my evenings explaining to my kids why ice cream doesn’t count as dinner. If you know, you know…)
My clients appreciate the lightness I bring to heavy topics, and the deep empathy I have for the challenge of leading in complex times.
